Natural gourd cured and decorated by Olinalá artisans to create a beautiful box that can be used as a sewing box or given whatever use you want.
Known as bules or gourds, it is a type of hard-shelled pumpkin that has been used since ancient times. Their technique is called maque and they are decorated in a traditional way with vegetable paints that the same artisans from Olinalá, Guerrero make using chia oil, tecoxtle, calcite, quartz, limestone and natural pigments.
The main motifs of this art are deer tails, turkey feathers and butterflies, highlighting Mexican traditions and cultural symbols.
